How to Care for Your New McDonald Knitwear

It is no secret that McDonald possum merino is a gorgeous blend of possum fur, merino wool and mulberry silk, that if cared for properly will maintain its gorgeous look and feel for years to come.

While, possum merino is a fabric that is known for its timelessness, luxuriousness and versatility, in order to ensure your McDonald knitwear lasts, we recommend you take special care when it comes to caring for your treasured items.

Below are a few tips to get the most out of your luxurious McDonald Possum Merino:

Washing

Look inside. We have washing instructions printed on the care label inside each garment, and with accessories, it is printed on the packaging label. You should always check and read the label for specific direction.

Always hand wash your items, make sure you gently wash the garments in cold or lukewarm water with an environmentally friendly liquid wool wash. Washing your garments with an environmentally friendly liquid is highly recommended as it is naturally a lot less harsh on the possum merino fabric.

After you have washed your knits, make sure you rinse well. You can then use a washing machine to gently spin away any excess water before air-drying.

Additionally, you should always separate colours, ensure all zips are closed and lay flat out of direct sunlight when drying. Never hang your garments as this can cause the natural fibre to stretch out of shape.

While taking these steps to increase the longevity of our luxurious garments, there are a few things to avoid, such as ensuring all jewellery has been removed when handling and washing your items, never tumble dry and never use bleach

Dry Cleanable

McDonald garments and accessories that do not have leather on them are dry cleanable. However, if your garment includes our beautiful lambskin leather please do not dry clean.

Storage

Fold, rather than hang your garments to avoid stretching and hanger marks. If you are not planning to wear your items for a period of time, store clean, dry garments in an airtight plastic container to protect them from moth damage. You can use lavender, rosemary or cloves to further protect your precious items when storing.

Managing odours

Thanks to possum merino’s unique fibre structure, the yarn is great at absorbing and releasing moisture. As a result, McDonald knits naturally resist odour build-up, so there is no need to wash after every use.

While the hollow structure of the fibre, traps warmth in tiny air pockets, helping you stay toasty warm in cold environments. This same structure is also incredibly breathable and allows for moisture and odour to be released naturally.

It is no secret that McDonald possum merino is a beautiful and versatile choice of clothing for all seasons, and we are sure you are loving your latest garment. However, in order to get the most out of your knits, we recommend you follow these steps to care for them.
