Why Possum Merino Wool is the Next Natural Trend
Gone are the days of heavy woollen jumpers or itchy synthetic materials to keep us warm during the colder months. Possum Merino has answered our prayers; luxuriously soft, lightweight yet incredibly warm and stylish… what’s not to love?
So, what exactly is possum merino and why has it put us on the map in both the local and international fashion markets?
McDonald possum merino is a luxurious blend of gorgeous natural fibres making our range not only must have fashion but sustainable, long-lasting clothing that will stand the test of time. We source only the finest merino wool, possum fur blend and lovingly craft each piece so you can enjoy your timeless item year after year.
Possum merino has a unique hollow fibre structure which traps air to keep you nice and toasty, this also makes it incredibly light. Merino wool is also known for its warming properties and luxuriously soft texture. The blend is also very breathable, so you won’t overheat, making it perfect for all occasions.
Possum fur is a by-product of the government’s eradication programme to save our beautiful forests from these pesky little pests. The New Zealand Fur Council and the Department of Conservation agree that fur recovery is one of the solutions to control possums for natural heritage protection.
Do not be fooled by the delicate feel and appearance of possum merino. The blend is durable, lasting you season after season and won’t pill or wrinkle. As we only use natural fibres, our garments are anti-static.
Merino wool has a world-leading reputation for being gentle, strong and resilient. The source and process of our brushtail possum fur comply with New Zealand legislation, including the Animal Welfare Act 1999, as well as The New Zealand Fur Council Best Practice Guidelines.
